Look, a Light!

"The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. Those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them." Isaiah 9:2

These familiar words brought new meaning this season as I pondered the darkness of not only our world, but our very souls, without the light of Jesus Christ. We witness this darkness outwardly through horrific mass shootings and natural disasters, and inwardly through lonely struggles of depression and anxiety. We are human; so very fragile and so deeply sinful that the darkness can be suffocating.

Praise be to God that He did not leave us to die in this state, but sent His beloved Son to be our Light. This Light pierced the darkness through His life, endured the darkness through His death, and forever conquered the darkness through His resurrection. We have surely seen a great Light through Jesus Christ, and will see this Light face to face when He returns to earth to rule His kingdom. In this way, Christmas is both a celebration of the past and an anticipation of the future.

I look forward to presenting "Look, a Light!", a new song I wrote based on Isaiah 9:1-7, along with my sister at our church's Christmas Eve service. The service will take place at 5:00 PM today (Sunday, December 24) at Grace Community Church in Hudsonville, MI; all are warmly invited.

May you be richly blessed this Christmas as you contemplate the Light who illuminates our world and our hearts with His glory and grace.
